FAQ’s
What is a “warehouse gym”?
Inside our facility you will find no machines, no mirrors, no TV’s, no juice bars and no cell phones. Our gym is 2,600 square feet of open space complete with every tool you need to build functional strength. The layout of our gym allows for increased focus on the given movements during each and every workout.
Why do you recommend training barefoot?
Before the invention of overpriced sneakers and running shoes there were no muscular imbalances, low back issues, or overuse injuries. The sneakers you wear are developed with some form of a heel lift. This heel lift puts undo pressure on your ankles, calves, knees, hips, and increases tension placed on your lumbar region. This can lead to ankle sprains, ligament tears, overused hip flexors and low back injuries. Many ankle, knee and low back issues can be associated with weakness in your glutes. Training barefoot allows you to properly activate your glutes and allow for better stabilization of your lower extremity. The result is increased use of muscles increased strength, and injury prevention. Many of our clients will tell you past knee, back and postural issues have improved in only a few weeks of training barefoot. Our members choose between training barefoot, with flat soled sneakers like Chuck Taylors or they choose to wear Vibrams.
What are your hours?
Our gym does not operate like your basic run of the mill gym or health club. We are open for our boot camps, group training and semi-private training. During our Recovery Weeks from Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp Members can choose a membership level that includes open gym hours to perform workouts provided by the staff. All other sessions, personal training and consultations are by appointment only.
How do I join?
At Tyler English Fitness we don’t just accept anyone as a member. Unlike your typical cookie cutter gym we don’t have to and will not work with everyone. The atmosphere in TEF is intense and not for everyone. Tyler English Fitness is Connecticut’s Only Hardcore Strength Gym and consists of Connecticut’s Most Elite Fitness Boot Camp, Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp, our members are accepted into our gym through their hard work, determination and drive. If a potential client has shown what it takes to become a member they then have the option of joining.
Do you have childcare?
No, when our members are here they are here to put themselves first and work hard. We want our members to put themselves first for the short time in the day they are with us.
Do I have to join for a year?
If you are accepted as a member our membership has different levels but mainly 3 options.
- You Join
- You Join Longer
- You Don’t Join
- Sometimes you are not given the option to join!
